Technology
The European Union is home to three of the most cogeneration
intensive economies in the
world: Denmark, the Netherlands and Finland. This home market
has helped foster a strong
industry and supply chain base for manufacturers and to create a
good skills base around the
technology and its research and development. In other words, the
EU has a full cogeneration
infrastructure within its borders that supports a robust
increase in cogeneration deployment.
As a mature technology, already providing 11% of Europe’s
electricity5
there is no technical
impediment to proceeding with cogeneration. Moreover, the
industry continues to improve on
its efficiency, product reliability and market fit, with
significant focus on new technology
development.
